hello everyone,
i have a question about solidworks drawing capability. can solidworks make 2d production drawings of machine components like gear mates and sprockets? (as we all now, these components have special representations in drawings, which is different from their real geometrical representations, and are according to certain standards)

How would you do this in AutoCAD? A bit of manual work, right? Same in SWx.
IMO - Some standards need to be changed from old drafting board standards where it would be tedious to draw entire gear or sprocket and thus the simplified technique. Why continue that technique into the modern world?

Agreed. One suggestion is to create a configuration of your part that removes teeth and conforms to the standard.

Try this one..........I used it a long time ago ........liked it then........It can export into SWX or Inventor etc.

Are you wanting to create the involute form of the gear tooth?

I think the OP wants to know how to generate a gear drawing similar to the link below:

This is the traditional drafting board method of detailing a gear where a table is included that lists all of the specifics (diametral pitch, no of teeth, etc).

correct shaggy, machine parts drawings should conform to standars, there is no modern/traditional way of drawing.
if you place a gear in an assembly, and get a section view of it in drawing, you'll get a incorrect representation which is dependent on the gears angular position. section cuts of meshing gears are even worse.
