2d Sketches to 3d 1

I have a set of 2d sketches that I want to make into a 3d representation for a layout sketch. The method that I used was to extrude the sketches as quilts and do a merge to create a new, closed quilt.

Question 1: is there any way to create a solid from this quilt? I would like to carve additional material for mounting holes, etc. if possible.

Question 2: Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks in advance for the options/opinions!

You may be interested in AutobuildZ for Pro/ENGINEER. I saw a demonstration of the product. It worked very well.

You can solidify with Edit-->Solidify (WF+) or a Protrusion from a quilt (2001).

Depending on the geometry, there may be a better way, but if this has already worked, I'd say it's the way for you to go.

Matthew: I've used Autobuildz for one project, and I think they have some work to do on it. If the original CAD drawing has things like broken edges or overlapping lines, Autobuildz won't work. Also, It would be nice if the user got control of the way the resulting sketches are dimensioned. I found myself having to redefine every sketch it produced.

I've used it for a project in which I rebuilt a floorplan in Pro/E, and looking back, I probably would have done it in less time from scratch.

Star for justkeepgiviner (great handle by the way). Worked like a charm.

I'll have to look into the Autobuildz program. May be useful if I end up doing a lot of these...

Mark,

Good feedback on the AutobuiltZ. I never used it, only saw the demo. Those ALWAYS work well...

Also, I missed my opportunity for a star there. Sloppy cut & paste on the Edit >> Solidify in my editor...

Keep up the great work!
