3-Dimensional Open Web Steel Joists

Does anyone know where I can find some information on a 3-dimensional open web steel joist system? I've had no luck searching on google.

The bottom chords are off-set from the top chords and the webs connect all the off-set chords - so it's like one big space frame.

Have you thought about contacting an OWSJ manufacturer to ask them if they have any literature on this. I've called Vulcraft a few times and they've always been extremely helpful.

We just used regular angles with 'crushed' web tubing welded into the fillet and the chords skewed at 30 degree angle (from vert) and horizontal component went into the adjacent joist... worked really well. Architect for Limeridge Mall in Hamilton, Ontario wanted a space frame appearance and I suggestd these be used this in lieu of them (about 30 years ago).

The only system that I was aware of (and there are probably others) was the Butler Delta System.

It's an existing structure that I'm doing an evaluation for. The members are very light (1/8" thick double angles for chords). I feel pretty comfortable doing the design checks for the members as I go through the analysis, but I wanted to read up on them a little and see if there are any specific things to look out for, design assumptions, etc.

I'll call vulcraft tomorrow and I'm going to look at the Butler Delta System now.

I don't think Vulcraft has gone down this route.

The Butler system is your best bet - I think it is a patented system.
