I have a pile cap that will be supporting 2 different columns with 2 different reactions. Is there a code that specifies the edge distance from a column to the face of the cap? One column reaction is actually quite a bit larger than the other. I'm assuming taking the resultant and centering it on the group is the correct route to go? Would you agree with that statement?

Hi rendevousp...

Taking the resultant and centering it on the group is not a correct approach.
The best approach is to use a strut and tie method representing both columns and support piles.

To prevent bursting of the side cover due to load transfer at the top of the pile there are recommendations limiting edge distance of pile, but edge distance to the column will most likely be controlled by strut inclination.

I know that this is not answering your question, but it is important to keep in mind the following-- The edge distance between the pile cap and center of pile is also influenced by development of the bottom reinforcing bars. Remember to leave enough room to develop your "ties" so they can be effective at the support in your strut and tie model.
