low temperture stress relieving of 300 series stainless steel is recommended not to exceed 775 deg F. I have a fabrication that is recommended to stress relieve. Any recommendations on time in furnace, max. insert temperature and max allowable removal temperature from furnace.

Thanks

Henk55;
I doubt that the 775 deg F stress relief temperature is going to do much good. What is the reason for requiring this? Regarding maximum allowable removal temperature, this is 775 deg F, the time at temperature depends on thickness, I would use 30 minutes.

Henk,
Stress relieving 300 series s.s at 775F will only remove the peak stresses and aid in dimensional stability. The stress removal process is really slow at this low temp., one source recommended that the soak time be 4 hrs per inch.

Can you supply details about the size, configuration, weight, etc.? Many fabricators and machine shops working with 300 series stainless have switched to vibratory stress relief, especially for large parts with lots of variations in wall thickness, or bi- or multi-metallic parts. Look at
