304 SS and hydrogen sulfide

Is type 304 stainless steel a suitable material for a sludge storage tank where the sludge will have a hydrogen sulfide concentration of 5,600 ppm (v)?

There is no danger in using 304 at ambient teperatures. sulfudation starts above 300C. It is negligible below that.
 
Mcguire is correct. Also, nickel can consume 15% percent its own volume in hydrogen as it approaches high temperatures. Which can lead to further problems.
 
Just don't weld it unless it is dual stamped 304/304L. Welding will cause sensitization unless an "L" grade is ued, and can lead to polythionic stress corrocsion cracking
