304 Stainless Steel Sink Discoloration

We made a custom sink from 304 stainless and our customer sent the attached picture with discoloration on the back that almost looks like some sort of delamination. The sink had a non-directional sanded finish after welding. Any thought on what this is?

What cleaning solutions do they use and what have they tried to clean this?
Of course the real question is 'so what?'

I'd be more concerned about the corner that's visible, which looks like the sink was welded together; a typical commercially available sink is stamped out in a press.

Don't know about your specific staining, but I did something bad to my own sink with toilet bowl cleaner left on overnight; I had to use some serious abrasive to bring back the shiny satin finish it originally had.

The mark will probably polish out. If it doesn't and it's deep, then cause for concern, but I'm guessing it wasn't installed looking like this.

Modern steelmaking processes aren't that dirty that you'd have an inclusion or material fault of this scale.

Looks like it might have been coated with some type of clear coat that is now degrading
