We have a customer wanting a Stainless overlay to protect his equipment from HCl and HF. The operating temperature is 125 F and the concentration is 15% - for either of the two or as a combination total.

Would 316L be suitable for this?

Stainless steels are not suitable for service in HCl, much less HF. You need an entirely different category of materials for this type of environment.

I suspected as much - but I wanted to ask the experts.

Thanks everyone.
