Dear material experts,

I need to install 1.5" solid SS nozzle to a crude tower, which is CS with 410S clad at 775F (413C) design temp and 60 psig.
The content is crude oil containing sulfur which is the corrosion source.

Can I use 316L SS ? Is its corrosion resistance reduced at that temp ?

If it is reduced, what other options ? 321 SS or 347 SS ?

Why do you need a solid 316L stainless steel nozzle? This installation will be a dissimilar metal weld. Why not go with carbon steel nozzle base material and have the 410 stainless steel clad?

Metengr,
vendor has difficulty to WOL small bore. I do understand there are certain risks due to different thermal expansion at the dissimilar weld and the face of flange. The mating flange is C.S.
Some companies do allow solid SS for small bores. Some has temperature limit, others have thermal expasnion rate difference limit.

And with austenitic SS the risk of chloride stress corrosion cracking can be serious.
Knowing the stress, both from service and thermal effects is important.

metengr,
Thanks for both papers and they are talking about the use of 316(316L)SS. So I think to use 316L solid nozzzle for small bores shall not be a problem. I am more concerned the right material to be used at this stage than anything else such as stress and leak problems. The nozzle is instrument nozzzle (pressure), not for process.

Sounds like this will be attached via bolted flange. If it was welded I would sorry about sensitization and possible intergranular attack.

The final material selection is 347 SS.
