38kV overcurrent protection

Has anybody ever used a SCADA-Mate by S&C. My problem exists because we have connected to the utility at an overhead pole and our wire needs protection. I would like to install a fused cutout to match my wire size, but have been told that I can't install a fused cutout because they have to feed underground distrubtion and we are going overhead. At the point of connection I have an S&C scada-mate which says it has overcurrent fault protection on page 7. I would just have to connect the CT's to that device and would have the necessary protection. That would satisfy my requirement?

I set one up about a month ago. It was pad mounted switchgear, but I believe the over current unit is the same. In my case the CT's were integral to the unit.

The only problem I ran into was that the required communication and power cables for the unit were not supplied. To S&C's credit, they found a local sales rep about an hour away that lent me the cables.

There was no easy way to test the unit with traditional secondary injection methods. I have an old Sverker that I used to test via primary injection. I don't recall if S&C makes a secondary cable adapter. The unit was accurate and fairly user friendly (uses hyper-terminal to configure with a menu based system).

Page 7 indicates that the control is capable of fault detection. The switch only has a 600A interrupting rating, so it is not capable of fault interruption. I guess the fault detection capability is for distribution automation purposes, not for fault protection.
