We need to measure and do some annotations in a shop floor in a 3DXML file. How can we achieve this using a 3DXML viewer or 3D VIA or 3D LIVE or any other viewer ? Any suggestions would be welcome.
The 3DXML format is not really designed to allow measurements or annotations, it is only intended to serve as a visual application. The lightweight model format CATIA normally uses for applications like FTA or MBD is likely something like a .cgr format. Unlike the free 3DXML viewer, it will cost you a few bucks to purchase a CATIA license for FTA or MBD applications.
We have a 3DVIA Composer license with sync and security. You can create a .SMG file to use with Composer Player. While in the player you can measure and drop annotations on the file. The .SMG format allows the Player to save. The sync option will make it easy to keep .SMG and CATproduct/CATPart synchronized. The security option provides access rights and time out options. We use this when sending files out for quote. Inside the Composer Player you would see the meta data of the CATPart (property page info)
