4 hole flanges and butterfly valve

Hi everyone,

I have taken over the work of another engineer that as since left the company. there have been a couple of issues within a project that he was in charge of that i have to fix (newbiee engineer here). so basically he has sandwiched a butterfly valve between 2 flanges. both flanges are DN100 and have 4 holes. bow here is the problem, the holes butterfly valve that he has ordered do not match with the hole spacing or PCD of the flanges. the hole spacing of the butterfly valve as spaced to match an 8 hole flange. I have been looking at different data sheets of vendors to find a valve that will fit but have had no luck so far. is there something im missing? are there no butterfly valve that meet that match the 4 hole spacing.

What design code and rating is that weird 4 bolt flange??

It looks to me like a fire hose connection?

either way, that hose connection adaptor flange is clearly a different design code / standard than the other flange connection connecting to the pump?

Do you have an itemised isometric or GA drawing of this listing the relevant parts?

What exactly is the issue? It doesn't fit or just looks odd?

Why are they different, is the PCD different for the flanges and the valve?

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)
 
I suspect that the main pump flange is ASME class 150 or PN 10 or PN 16, but the hose connection is only a PN6 flange which has 4 bolts at 4" / NPS 100.

They don't look very strong flanges as the bolt heads are counter sunk into the flange with a hex head to allow the hose adaptor flange to sit on the face of the sealing ring, which looks rather thin to me.

But the ISO should tell you all you need to know which of course we don't have....

I would start by finding the specs on the flanges; they should be stamped on the flange itself if you cannot find the datasheet or reference information.
 
The drawing indicates a valve sized for 8 holes. The red lines indicate where bolts would normally be positioned. The valve is off the shelf. You have custom flanges.

Tug - he has PN6 flanges, not "custom". It is also off the shelf. But I will give you the bolt holes are a bit custom being countersunk that way.

And what must be a PN10 or higher rated butterfly valve, not a PN6 valve.

Basically it looks no wonder the previous engineer left....

LittleInch, look by the stem, the loops on either side are for bolts to pass through. The same loops are present in the bottom. There are also notches in the valve body for bolts. That's what I was showing with my red lines. This valve is built to work with 8 bolt flanges.

The key here is that as pictured, these components will work together. The flanges facing the valves are custom, that is all.
