Hi All,
I've been asked to scheme up a foundation design for a 4 Storey Modular building.

This type of building design is new to me.

Modules arrive on site in 3m X 12m Pods.

Rock is close in the subgrade so the plan is to provide lean mix on rock and provide pads at the grid spacings above. Can anyone point me in the right direction to give me a steer in locating typical foundation details or items that should be considered in designing and detailing foundations for buildings of this size.

Also in terms of building stability do the pods themselves once bolted together act as shear walls as opposed to typical buildings where stair cores and lift shafts are designed to stabilise the building.

Also is there any need to provide on grade tie beams between isolated pads?

Are there any critical temporary construction load cases that should be considered?

Any tips welcome.

Cheers.

What made you think the foundation design is different than that for the normal/typical buildings? If competent rock is at a shallow depth, you might not require a foundation, but find a way to tie the modules for the lateral force.
