Does anyone know of any facilities capable of testing natural gas engines up to 4000 bhp? I would imagine that the OEM's (Cat, Waukesha, Cameron, etc...) have them but I do not know of any independent facilities.

The packagers of the engines, exterran, CSI, and others. I believe they coild test one at the Colorado Stae University .

probably southwest research institute, too... I believe they have dynos for ship engines. SWRI.com... ah yes, here we go:

The Engine, Emissions and Vehicle Research Division maintains five large engine test cells with 6,000 brake horsepower capability and two large-bore, single-cylinder test cells.

I know PowerTest makes dynos that large, you could probably contact them to see who has purchased their products.

My guess is that most of the independent engine consultants will have a "large engine" facility. We have one here that's got a 5000 bhp capacity. When it's running at full load you can see the steam from miles away.

But do they have 32,000 scfh of natural gas? I know there's a lot of 3000-5000 bhp diesel dynos around.

If you've got an engine to test, why don't you call them and find out?

SomptingGuy,

Can you share with us where you work?

Reidh,

I will not advertise or promote the company I work for, hence my statement that "most of the independent engine consultants" can do this work. But since you specifically asked, I work for Sir Harry in Shoreham-By-Sea.
