I have a 13R design apartment building with an open unconditioned breezeway that is open from the front of the building to the back of the building. Are the 5 most remote dry sprinklers still to be calculated or can it be 4 most demanding for a light hazard area? The breezeway is less than 75' and I have a mixture of extended and standard coverage dry sprinklers.

13R states to refer to NFPA 13 for calculation criteria for areas outside of the dwelling unit. So, if you are using spray sprinklers and not residential sprinklers, I would go with the 5 sprinkler calculation. If you are using residential sprinklers outside of the dwelling unit, then you can use 4 sprinklers.

That is just my opinion. I tend to go overly conservative at times.
