Good afternoon, does anyone have a profile of the pulley tooth for the gates power grip 5gt belt, ours has crumbled, and during the design there were problems taking into account the power reserve.

Contact the manufacturer , go to their web sites ton of information

I haven't seen Gates publish the actual tooth profile before. If you have a link I would also like to have that info.

If was a patented profile, and the patent expired, then I imagine the patent itself should tell us.

I think the detailed tooth profile is an open secret in that there are a number of compatible parts out there, but Gates won't specifically tell you what standard geometry they adhere to. Gates will only state which of their pulleys meshes with it.

Other makers must buy a bunch of OEM compatible pulleys that call for that belt and measure them or license that information from Gates for producing compatible pulleys.

The main problem is finding out the types and limits of variation in the pulley that maintain good belt life while minimizing cost. If one gets a bunch of pulleys and takes an average for the profile and look at the variation from that as a 3 sigma limit, then I expect the resulting geometry and variation will be good to use, though it might be a bit more expensive than if the Gates limits were used.

What has crumbled?

The most interesting thing is that there is very little information on 5gt specifically, even on the Gates website. But most belt drives for machine tool spindles use these belts. The spindle manufacturer can't help either, as they have ready-made tooling for pulleys, and only the profile name is indicated in the documentation for assembly. We found several options on 3D modeling sites, but with a more detailed drawing, the teeth "run in".

There is a two part dental cast. Take a cast of the belt. Inspect and record on optical comparator.
