I am currently running UG NX3 on a 64 bit machine. When another co-worker (operating on a 32 bit) opens my part file and tries to export,,,,the system locks up and never does export. I have heard that 64 bit machines are not supported by Unigraphics till NX4? Any help would be great. Thank You

All that I can offer is that we have no problems of this sort with 64 bit on NX4.

There is a difference in running on a machine CAPABLE of running WinXP64 and actually running WinXP64.
NX3 will run on WinXP32 on a 64bit capable machine.
NX4 is certified to run on WinXP64 on a 64bit machine.

Are you running NX3/32 on WinXP64 under 32 code OR NX3/32 on winXP32?

We are currently running NX3/32 on WinXP64. Not really sure if that is what is causing the problem. I am looking to get some concrete evidence why we CANNOT export our files. The only common reason we can come up with is jobs that originate on NX3/32 WinXP64 machines totally bog down when doing anything on the 32 bit machine. Again,, I am not a systems guy but it seems like there is a conflict with the two.

There is a conflict in the libraries used by NX.
NX3 is NOT certified to run in WinXP64!

Either upgrade the app to NX4 or reinstall the proper OS for the app.

Thanks for the input. Since I am having trouble convincing my IT guy that this is the problem,,, is there any articles or UGS feedback that I could find. I need a little more ammo than just "I heard on the internet". That would be a huge plus if you know of any. Again,, thanks for your help. Our company has about 35 seats of UG. We are all running NX3. About 20 of us have 64 bit machines and the rest 32's.My major problem seems to be the exporting of the simplest block from these files. I can delete EVERYTHING from the file and try exporting that one block,,,,,,And it is a guarentee to lock the system up.

REnright, Have you tried the UGS BBS?

John, can you help REnright out? Your word should carry some weight.[thumbsup2]

I have tried UGS news groups and just about everything else on UGS.com. I'm getting more opinions,,but I need some hard evidence. Also,,,these files that seem to bog right down and lock up the system with the export command,,,If you run a File, Utilities, Part Clean Up,, the file then seems to be fine. Exporting seems to be instint. The problem with that is that my last Part Clean Up took about 22 hours. These files are getting "Dirty" some way,,some how. Thanks

If the opinions are from someone at UGS, that should carry some weight. Those of other operators, while they may be correct, don't seem to have the same authority.

I agree. That's why I am searching for something or someone to kinda confirm the conflict between the two.

I would contact GTAC. They have been handling this sort of stuff and should be able to help you.

If you go to the GTAC support site and under the Certifications link ( you can pick the O/S and hardware configuration you have and then see a list of what is certified by UGS. Use that to "prove" to your I/T people that the software vendor doesn't "suggest" using the setup you currently have.

If this doesn't convince your I/T folks, then I'm not sure what, if anything, will. The bottom line is they have you set up on a machine that the software vendor doesn't support. That's just a waste of most of your maintenance money that you're paying each month because if the problem IS related to XP64, UGS still won't offer a fix since the platform is not supported.

All GTAC said was to send them a file and they would look at it. Last time we did that it took over a year here to here a reply. I'm not knocking them ,because we are all busy, but I don't have that kind of time.
