I have just read the old & closed thread (see reference) regarding casting a Wrought Aluminium Alloy (7075). Indeed it can be cast, but with the direct squeezecasting process. This is what we have been doing for many years. All of the Aluminium wheels on the British Army Warrior vehicle are made from this alloy and are cast using this process. Also the wear element which is always required on an Aluminium wheel running with a track is cast in. Yes there is some centreline segregation, but as long as it is confined to the centreline then it does not do as much damage to the overall strength.
