Which of the following, Aluminum 7075 T651 or Aluminum 2024 T351, has the best shear strength for a doubler patch repair? The patch will be secured with rivets. The part is made of aluminum (not sure which grade) and it will undergo minimum vibration at low temperature ranges once it is installed.

Based on your post I would go with the 7075 T651 in lieu of the 20-34 T351. This is based on the possibility of corrosion with the 2024 material vs the 7075. Also there is a slight gain in the shear strength(44 ksi vs 41 ksi) with the 7075 material.

If you could come back with a little more information as to the conditions it would help with the selections.

Coka;
I would also confirm the chemical composition of the part before making a final selection of patch plate material using just shear stength data.

Thank you unclesyd! Unfortunately, that is the only information that I have for now. I will definitely verify the chemical composition of the plate before hand.
