Hi everyone,
When calculating the development length of hooked bars according to ACI, it says that a factor of 0.7 can be used for cover provided it meets the requirement. See below.
It says that when side cover is at least 2.5" the factor of 0.7 can be used, but also adds and for a 90 degree hook with extension cover greater than 2" a factor of 0.7 can be used.
Does this mean that in order to apply a 0.7 factor to a 90 degree hook that you need both side cover of at least 2.5" and extension cover of at least 2"? Or can either one be satisfied to apply the reduction (i.e. side cover is 3" and extension cover is 1", or side cover is 2" and extension cover is 3")?
Thanks.
