A-36 steel coating

Is there coating that you can use on an A-36 steel I-beam that will protect it against rusting. I have considered using stainless steel but would prefere using the structural steel. Any help is greatly apperciated. Thanks, cmf

Maybe I am missing something from your question, but there are several coatings available for the coating of A36. The environment you are in, as well as, temperature and temperature fluctuations, final apprearance, fire-proofing, etc... determine the type of coating you may need.

I would suggest talking to some paint vendors. One I have used quite often is Tnemec. I have also used/specified Ameron products as well as Wilko products.

There are coatings out there, but more information on your final prodcut would need to be known.

What about Galvanizing the steel. Contact Columbus Galvanizing in Columbus OHIO, they have the largest tanks for galvanizing that I can think of. They routinely galvanize truss bridges.

The above comments are correct....you must be be more specific.... the best steel coating must be tailored for the intended application. The coatings used in a steel mill are not the same as those used for an office building, shopping center or sulfuric acid plant.

Last comment, the installed cost for some coatings may be very high.... some coatings require special primers, some are more fragile than others....

Consider also the site requirements for "fireproofing" the steel. Sprayed gunite may be all that you require...
