A/Car - Modify suspension starting position

Hi all,

I am reverse engineering a suspension system, but I am finding some issues during the simulations, and I think it's because of the way I have measured the hardpoints originally. I have scanned the arms with the car lifted which means the suspension model represents the fully extended suspension, at the end of the "rebound" travel.

I know the original suspension has 80mm bump travel and 80mm rebound, so to compensate the fact that my suspension is modelled at full rebound, I set up my simulation at 160bumpo 0 rebound. For some reason the suspension only compresses 120mm, and then the simulation continues but doesn't travel any further.

I happen to know how much the wheel moves to between full rebound and loaded under its own weight, so with the information in the model, I could somehow set up different intiaal positions for the starting point of the simulation, but I don't know how to do this. IS there any way?

Thanks

There are many ways.

In order of simplicity

Your initial approach is correct and viable if you have a good model. Yours locks up for some reason. For instance one manufacturer usually designs at kerb, another designs at GVM_RGAWR. Both work. In fact my current design uses neither of those.

Next simplest in all honesty is to draw it in cad and move the wheel up 80mm and remeasure the hardpoints.

Finally you can add a displacement request to each hardpoint and find its value when the wheel is at the dseign ride height.
