I work in the Air Force as a Volcanic Ash Analyst. Recently I've put together some training material for monitoring seismic activity in relation to volcanic eruptions. In my research (I was a complete novice before) I discovered the differences between seismographs, accelerometers, etc. I've cleared up must of it myself but I was wondering what is the practical application of seismograms which give out readings in microvolts? As in, how can I relate these to the amplitude associated with seismic activity? Any help would be great.
