I sent CNBC a note correcting the mis-information. We engineers need to get credit where credit is due!

They also claim 'Amazingly, the whole collapse was captured on video'!

Video?

There are many more than 5 shocking architectural failures....but the structural engineers keep them standing so that all the world can see.....[rofl]

Including the Brooklyn Bridge Park shows how stupid our society has become. I'm over 50 & grew up in NYC. Back in the day we kids knew to touch the steel sliding pond; the steel swings; the steel monkey bars on a hot day. The seesaw was the only thing in the playground not made out of steel.

That park is in an expensive area. The parents who take their children there have bucks which would mean they're not dumb only stupid.

I'd say the Vdara is an architectural failure. The playground could be an architectural failure. The Tacoma is a famous structural engineering failure (renowned bridge engineer designed it). I remember looking at the Lotus riverside failure on eng tips. The piles appeared to be poorly reinforced but the initiating cause was no doubt due to poor local excavation choices. Of course the Kemper failure has changed our building codes for ponding.
