Hi,everyone:
I made a model with SOLID95.After solution,I made stress linearize to SX at the same section but with 2 diffrernt 2 nodes path. The section is normal to X aixs.
In my opinion, the membrane stress of the two paths should be equal, but they are not.
I wonder why,and someone familiar with stress linearization in ANSYS please give me some advice.Thank you!

Hi,
"In my opinion, the membrane stress of the two paths should be equal, but they are not": not necessarily. They are if the "membrane" is cylindrical, and far from any kind of discontinuity. But change the shape of the membrane and you can generate as many SX distributions as your imagination can. For that reason, the ASME VIII-2 app.4 defines the "primary general membrane stress" as the AVERAGE of the linearized normal stress in the section. In order to do that, you have to generate a great number of paths along the section's perimeter, in order for you to be able to calculate a reliable average.

Hi,cbrn:
Thank you very much for your help.I will find the paper you mentioned and make it clear.

THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK?
