A Relief Valve which opens and closes at 2 different Pressures

Hi everyone,


I'm working on a DIY project and the device I'm planning to build involves converting the water inside a container to steam. Its for desalination purpose. I need to fix a release valve which will allow the passage of the steam to another section of the device (condensation tank).The release valve must open only after all the water was converted to vapor. Also,upon releasing of the steam, the valve cannot go back to close position before all/ majority of the steam was is removed from the container. Meaning, the closing pressure should be much less than the opening pressure.

I don't know of any kind of valve which can do this. I WILL appreciate the help a lot of anyone can let me know if there's such a valve.

In most countries of the world there are strict rules to follow on the design, fabrication and inspection of such devices as when it goes wrong, it goes badly wrong and they explode and kill and seriously injure / burn people.

This is not a "DIY" project.

Please stop and get some professional advise.

I like unconventional thinking.

We are all, however, dependent on what is readily (and affordably for new projects) commercially available. There exists in my opinion no simple and cheap device that can do what you wish. To find a solution you must at least give operational limits for what you can accept in pressure and temperaure differences in your operational cycle, these are two of the factors able to give impulses to valves.

The simplest solution would be a disc checkvalve, opening on a slight overpressure (steam). This perhaps, if necessary, combined with a steam trap, taking care of condensate or raw-water excess in the pipeline before the outlet check-valve).

If-desalination power is given by direct sunlight, you might have problems reaching a significant overpressure.

If you can accept electrical operated valves you have several additional options.

Suggestion: outlet to open signal: mechanical by thermostat or electromechanical by temperature measurement.
Outlet valve to close: signal by pressure switch, theromostat or moisture detector electrical system at negative signal (no moisture). Or: valve permanently open, or opens at moisture detection, closes at dry detection) This solution exists as leakage control for dishwashing machines.
