All,

Can anyone confirm the various designations for type 301LN stainless steel in 1/2 Hard condition:

I've seen

S30153
AMS5518
SUS301LN
ASTM A666

Are these all referring to the same thing?

Does anyone have a cross-reference website that could help demystify this?

A UNS number, S30153 refers to a composition, and only that.
The SUS is another version of a composition designation.
The AMS and ASTM are product specification. They cover chemistry, properties, testing and tolerances.
In the case of ASTM A666 it covers dozens of alloys in many different strengths.
You need to own a copy of it so that you know how to order the correct material.

I will add that if you own a copy of the UNS handbook it not only lists all alloys, but for each it lists the applicable ASTM, ASME, AMS, and a few other specs. In the back of it is also an extensive cross reference for alloy names (common and trade) as will as other spec designations.

Start with this: UNS S30153 is Type 301LN austenitic stainless steel and, as such, is the same as the Japanese standard SUS301LN; both are composition standards. ASTM A666 is a specification where you have to order a grade and hardness (i.e. 301LN in the half-hard condition); mechanical properties are specified for this grade. AMS 5518 is inappropriate - it is for Type 301 (does not have the limits on carbon and nitrogen like 301LN) and it does not differentiate degrees of hardness.

I find the ASM "Worldwide Guide to Equivalent Irons and Steels" indispensable in comparing international sources; check it out!

the material data base we use also list a Chinese spec of 022Cr17Ni7N
