Good day. In a spool which we are tasked to build we have come across a requirement to use a couple of 45 ELs with the above classification.

Are there any considerations to be concerned with as far as consumable selection for this P 9A material (2Ni 1Cu) to Grade 414 piping having a CE of .40 and major chemistry as follows: C .26, Mn 2.00, Si .50. The welding process that has been stipulated is STT. Pipe Nominal size is 6" S80. PWHT on all joints in this line (Client spec).

We do not at this time have a qualified procedure for this joint type and given the low alloy content of the EL's, I am leaning towards using either an S2 or S6 Mig wire consumable as I cannot see any benefit of using an overalloyed wire in this case..? Testing will in the end confirm our choice and to be honest, I cannot see a failure due to consumable selection in this case.

Am I wrong in this line of thinking.?

Thank you,

stk
