I am currently working a project which nessesitates A286 metric socket head cap screw being coated w/ Nitef coating and torqued to 35-45 in-lbs.

We are having a high failure rate before reaching 45 lbs.

Alternatives or solutions out there ?

What size bolt is it? M4 or smaller and you've exceeded the recommended seating torque according to the guide I have, which lists UTS as 189 ksi for the alloy steel used in the guide. According to my information, A286 has an UTS of 146 ksi, which means your torque should be even lower. Andy
