I am investigating the failure of a 6" Sch 40 A53 Gr.B pipe. The pipe failed due to freezing of the contents. The pipe has two lengthwise splits and has swelled in the remaining length well beyond the tolerances of its original manufacturing specs. I am preparing a report for our client and would like to be able to determine the percent overstress that the pipe has exceeded yield stress. Would a stress strain curve developed from ASTM A370 procedures be valid to determine this and does anyone have a stress/strain curve available for this material?
