AASHTO (1998 LRFD) article 6.12.1.1 refers to H-shaped members. What in the world is being referred to here? Is this an I-shape which we've decided to rename after turning it on its side?

I am trying to proportion bearing stiffeners and am trying to determine the appropriate nominal bending resistance of the bearing stiffener system under eccentric loading. Is this the right section for two or three stiffeners welded to the web at the bearing? This new LRFD code is the most obtuse thing!! [thumbsdown] Long live ASD!![wink]
