The Owner is preparing to use abandoned Benzene Pipeline as metal conduit for 600 Volts power cables, all inside industrial area.Pipeline is very old, abandoned for many years.
I don’t like this idea, but I have to check something :
(1) Can we accept abandoned benzene pipeline, cleaned up with pig launcher, and water under pressure ( with no chemicals),can we accept that pipe as cleaned up from the benzene.
If not, what kind of cleaning are you suggesting ?
(2) Is there any vapour inside such pipeline, if that pipeline is dry inside and abandoned for many years.

The insulation on the wire will surely have problems. Benzine likely attacks the insulation. Even if you chemically clean the pipe you are left with clean bare steel. Conduit is galvenized for corrosion protection. You will have a pipe that rusts.

New conduit may cost less than chemical cleaning. Contact Halliburton or BJ for an estimate.
