I have a few questions about meshing.

Given a 2D polygon (i.e. a profile built by straight lines) of random shape:

1- Is Abaqus smart enough to mesh it without having a node at every vertex ?
2- Does it convert the polygon to a smooth curve?
3- Does Abaqus place constraints as the element size becomes big or small?

Thanks.

1- You can use virtual topology to decouple the mesh generation from specific geometric entities. See A/CAE Manual 75. The Virtual Topology toolset
2- No
3- I don't understand that question
