Hello! I am trying to use the AM Modeler plugin that comes with Abaqus 2022. As a student I am using the Abaqus CAE Learning Edition 2022. I am trying to use the AM Modeler to import a sliced model to simulate the 3D printing process for concrete. At the moment I am still trying to get the AM Modeler working following a tutorial, but am coming across with a syntax error when I try to import an event series inp file.

I have attached the event series file, which was produced from a tutorial for the AM Plugin. If anyone could please help me, I would appreciate it very much!

You are trying to use an event series meant for moving heat source (laser heating with power as the last variable) in material deposition definition where tool state is expected as the last variable.

Dear FEA Way,

Thank you for your quick reply! I see. I am using a tutorial made for the AM Plugin for 2018, so there are some differences. I have attached the tutorial below and have tried to follow it in the 2022 version but with the same error. I assume some changes were made between the versions.

Do you happen to know any similar resources I could use as a sample to get me started with the AM Modeler? I have tried to look through documentation and research papers but they all use older versions of the AM plugin. I just want to make sure that the AM Modeler is able to work and that I am able to go through a successful simulation first before I begin working with my own projects.

Edit: My apologies, I also forgot to add that I did try to import the event series file as a custom event series type, but I still have the same syntax error.

The AM Modeler plug-in was redesigned a few times and now it's built into Abaqus/CAE. Probably the best way to learn how to use it would be to recreate the example problem "Sequential thermomechanical analysis of a powder bed fusion build" from Abaqus documentation using this plug-in. Or you can create your own simple example (like a cuboid with basic printing path) from scratch.
