This problem encountered in the recent abaqus/explicit simulation. The model is a concrete beam with steel sleeves on both sides of the beam. A Tie constrain is adopted between the steel sleeve and the beam (when the concrete is actually poured, the steel sleeve is embedded in the concrete). However, the calculation process always prompts that the element is excessively distorted. Finding the distorted element is the situation in the picture. The strange thing is that the unit is not distorted, but disappeared. How to deal with this situation?

Can you share the pictures showing the whole model with boundary condition and load symbols ? Visualization of this tie constraint (by highlighting the involved surfaces) will also be helpful. Are any other interactions used in this model ?

This beam and sleeve is tie, others is genaral contact

Is this gray part (sleeve) intersecting with red one (beam) or is there a cut in the beam to fit the sleeve ?

Yes,as you see. The concrete beam was drawn to adapt to the shape of the steel sleeve when modeling, and the two were tie.

The region where this distorted element is located may require remeshing. Take a closer look at the deformed shape of this element, it should show you why and how it becomes distorted. In some cases a change in tie constraint strain-free adjustment settings also helps.

If i can send e-mail to tell you the detail?
