ABAQUS Explicit Predefined Field Problem 2

Dear All,

I have a question regarding to result transfer between two ABAQUS Explicit simulations.

First one is a large deformation simulation with only plasticity effects (including a striker plate and a specimen). In the second one, I want to transfer stresses and material state, striker position etc. and then modify damage parameters to calibrate them with more than one additional simulations. I am aware that this is possible with the use of "predefined field" " initial state" options. I do all arrangements in ABAQUS CAE. I check *.inp file and in the output requests following statement is present in the first simulation input:

*Restart, write, number interval=1, time marks=no

After finishing first simulation, in the CAE, I copy first model and tried to apply first simulation results as predefined field. But I got an error message says : "The following instance is not available in the previous job. Select another job, select another instance, or rename the instace: "my instace name""

So I could not achieve to apply initial state. When I checked the *.odb file of the first simulation, even there are two instances, it only shows them as "PART-1-1". Therefore second simulation cannot call instances seperately. I do not know why my first simulation changes the instance names to only "PART-1-1". Any advice would be helpful to overcome this issue.

Sincerely,

Ali

By default, input files written by Abaqus/CAE are written in terms of an assembly of part instances. Did you create your input file in CAE?

If you did create your input file in CAE go to File -> Model Attributes and check if the option "Do not use parts" is selected. If this is selected you will only have one part in the odb like you described.

If you didn't create your input file in CAE, did you define parts? Or just instances? If you did the latter you will also only have one part in the odb like you described.

Dear Dave442,

Thank you for your fast response. Yes I did create my input in CAE. I deselect "Do not use parts" option and it works now. Thanks again.
