Hello everybody,

I am modeling Friction wedge dampers/freight train suspension system in ABAQUSv6.11.
So my model has two friction wedges, one bolster, one sideframe(used as the excitation surface), suspension springs and wedge springs.
I modeled everything and my model is running successfully but i am not exactly getting the results like i am expecting them to be when i compare mine to previously modeled 2-D models. So i would really appreciate it if anybody could help me or let know what could possibly be changed.

My first question is how to apply an Impact. I think i know how to do that but the results are not really helping. So this is what i am doing to apply an impact.I defined a pressure load for the two excitation surfaces with a magnitude and a cosine amplitude. Now i am supposed to apply a dipped displacement which is a cosine function for a duration of 0.1s and amplitude of 15mm.
Am i doing it right for impact response.!?

My second question is how to simplify the contribution of a body mass as mass points which are both longitudinally and vertically connected to the body, the weight is being applied to using very stiff springs representing steel-steel contact. Now what i did here is i defined point masses from interaction->special->inertia->point mass gave the mass, and then used constraint to couple all the mass points together to ensure a consistent movement. Now i really have no clue how to simplify the contribution of a body mass as mass points which are both longitudinally and vertically connected to the body, the weight is being applied to using very stiff springs representing steel-steel contact.!?

I would really really appreciate any suggestion for the questions, i have looking all over the internet and i did not find what i want.
Any ideas form anybody would be extremely helpful.

Thank you for your time.
