Hi

Can someone please tell me how I can get elemental rotations from Abaqus odb file

UR1 to UR3 are the translational freedoms. For shell elements the freedoms for rotation would be freedoms 4 to 6.

Thanks for ur replies.
I am sorry. I should have mentioned that my mesh comprises solely of 10-node modified tetrahedral elements. Is it possible to obtain rotations of the whole element in this case ? If yes, please let me know where I can start.

Thanks

I always thought U1, U2, U3 is Translational and UR1, UR2, UR3 is rotational in viewer.

And I belive the rotational is nodeal based as any element includes the tetrahedral can deform and have different rotation in each side and conner.

If the local element did not strain largly, then the rotation of the element should be the same as the rotation of the node.

You're right Yoman, I was getting mixed up with prescribing restraints to dof 4 to 6 for rotation in the input deck.

Solid elements such as C3D10M don't have rotational degrees of freedom though so you can't plot them as they don't exist. Rotation is described by the translation of the nodes only so you could calculate the value of rotation by simple trigonometry of the nodal displacements.
