Hi,
I am trying to simulate machining (milling) process for two layers for a given simple part. I am able to do this for one layer. For the second layer removal I try to import the previous model and map the stresses but since the second model does not have the top layer of elements it gives an error (since the element numbers are not available). Also it imports the chips formed during the previous machining simulation making the geometry undesirable(The chips are not shown as a separate set of elements in the odb file). Can someone help me to resolve this issue? Solution mapping method seems like a viable option although I do not know how to do that. Any help is greatly appreciated. FYI I am using ABAQUS explicit. Thanks.

Mesh-to-mesh solution mapping work only in Abaqus/Standard. In Explicit you would have to use other techniques but maybe you could also just proceed to machine the second layer in the same analysis.
