Hello,
I am currently working on a impact simulation in ABAQUS 2019. I wanted to simulate the impactior with a SPH Method. Now i watched some tutorials and there they converted lagrangian solid Elements C3D8R to a PC3D Element by deleting the C3D8R Elements in the INPUT file and replacing them with PC3D and doing some other stuff in the input file. These videos are from 2010-2012. Now I looked into some stuff from newer versions and there they also generated a lagreangian mesh but the only thing they did to amke the SPH model was to do "conversion to particles = YES" in the Section controls. Is this procedure the same as writing in the input file? Or do the Results differ?

If I use the 2. method and go to the input file I cant find the PC3D elements, thats why im asking.

I hope you understand my question and I would be happy if you could help me!

SPH elements can be defined directly (usually mass elements are created first and then replaced with PC3D) or obtained from the conversion of conventional finite elements. Check the documentation chapter Analysis —> Analysis Techniques —> Particle Methods —> Continuum particle analyses —> Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (especially the "Limitations" paragraph).

Thank you, I see that you have 3 ways of creating SPH model. So does that mean they are all the same ?

They are not the same, their choice depends on what you need.

So for an impact of a bird in a metall plate, what would you recommend? Conversion of elements in the input file?

Conversion of finite elements to SPH particles based on the deformation criterion would be the way to go in such a case.
