ABAQUS/Standard: Element Deletion?

I see that ABAQUS/Standard 6.14-1 has Element Deletion option available in Element Type dialog box, shown in the screenshot below.

Does the Element Deletion work the same way as in ABAQUS/Explicit? Do I have to define element set for interior elements? What contact method should I use, General or Contact Pair? I am asking this question specifically for C3D8R element in ABAQUS/Explicit.
