Hi,

I am trying to figure out the best way to model the thermal bending of a thin shell cylinder. Should I do a static or dynamic step and what element type should I use? I am trying to give it an initial temperature field and a final temperature field using *TEMPERATURE and observe the maximum thermal displacement of the cylinder (it is fixed at one end). Thanks.

Static stress analysis (general static step) will be sufficient. When it comes to the choice of finite element, there are several shell elements available in Abaqus. You may want to try with a few of them to see which one gives the most accurate results.
