I think that you may find the book "Applied Soil Mechanics with Abaqus Applications" (by S. Helwany) interesting. Also there's a website soilmodels.com where you can download various soil models for Abaqus.

Look on standard mc and dp models, that can often be used for sandy type of soil. From tunnel engineers that I support and help, user defined models, could be necessary if you are e. G., looking on complex clay and staged nonlinear analysis with loading and unloading in soil.
