Hi there!
Please illuminate a newbie: I have installed PCM600 downloaded from ABB site (had to register), then REF 542plus configuration tool from the relay page.
Cannot find any link or executable to start the config tool, either from within PCM600 or as a standalone program! I have seen on some work buddies the config tool as a separate application (older edition), but I don't want to ask it from them.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with SP1; it's on my home computer, I just want to be able to play with config files, for training before entering the trenches.

How ca I start the REF config tool?

The REF542+ can't be configured with PCM600. PCM600 is only for the 615, 630, 650 and 6570 series of IEDs.

There is a connectivity package for the REF542+, that's the one you installed. But it's only useful for IEC61850 systems. It serves only the communication board in the REF.

So in order to actually program the REF you need to get the dedicated REF software. I don't have a recent copy myself sadly. I see it can't be downloaded from the site either, only the PCM package is there. You'd have to get in contact with your local ABB distribution automation to get a copy.

Thank you for the info! Things are clearer now. If you or someone else has a copy of the REF542plus config tool, new or old, please give me a sign!

Bad in this case is that for REF542+ have a lot of version for this conf. tool regarding the version of relay. I have some version if you tell me which one you need I will send you.

Yes, there are many different firmware versions for both types of HMI. And like Dimitiko wrote, it is generally best / recommended to use the configuration software for that specific release.

It's been years since I've used one, but I expect the firmware revision to be printed on the label on the main unit, and most likely somewhere in the diagnostics screens on the IED once it's powered up.

The HMI has it's own revisioning as well btw.

Sorry for the delay.
The REF542plus relays are the following type: 1VCF752000 V260*
HMI: 1VCR007346

Don't know when I'll be in front of the relay to check the firmware version directly, I hope the product IDs are enough, I've found them in our documentation.

Thank you for your patience!

razvann,
Just go to the below link and click on the name to the right of the word Service on the right hand side of the page. It will bring up a web form to send a request to your local ABB service group for that relay. They will be happy to provide you with a way to download the software.

Thanks! I've just tried that.
As I'm not from the US (a fact which I've not hidden although the form was US-only), I wait to see what results I'll get and post here.
Before posting here, I have also tried with ABB support from my country (.ro) but they bitterly disappointed me.
In the meantime, if someone else has a solution for my problem, feel free to post!

ABB USA answered the same day and touched all subjects in my inquiry: config tool and an auto-reclosing question (I hope I know enough to be able to apply the ideas supplied). Thank you very much for this suggestion, JG2828! Also, congratulations to ABB USA for great support. I don't know if it's appropriate to write here the name of the support engineer (initials R. S.), he would deserve it, he answered very quick and complete.

That's great to hear. I'm glad I could help.
