For those of us working in old plants or with old electric motors, I have seen a particular questions asked multiple times. That question is how to convert ABMA bearing to SKF.

I saw that question asked on thread237-52747 so I am just proffering a solution as I can't reply the thread because it is closed.

There is an Android app designed to convert ABMA bearing numbers to SKF on the fly.

Hi RodneyO,

There are many OEM that specify bearings in it nameplate using AFBMA code (maybe because they want to grant the end user will buy the bearings from them). The conversion from the ABMA specification to global nomenclature (6xx3 or 6yy2)is not quiet simple because the manufacturers use some letters that are not included in the AFBMA codes so that create confusion in the end users and they doubt about the exactly spare part.

However, for standard electric motors usually you can take all sizes to find out the global nomenclature, in my case I use C3 bearings for conventional electric motors, but some special applications might needs a higher tolerance. EASA includes good information in it´s Technical Manual. Please find attached technical information provided by one manufacturer

Best Regards
