^C^C-la;s;"name of layer"
how could you say selected item's layer to on/off or lock/unlock by selecting that item
would it be
^C^C-la;LO;"layer name"; LOCK LAYER
^C^C-la;U;"layer name"; UNLOCK LAYER
^C^C-la;ON;"layer name"; LAYER ON
^C^C-la;OFF;"layer name"; LAYER OFF
ok is there a partial lisp i can place in the "layer Name" area to pick up a selected items layer???

The bonus utilities in R14 (and express tools in 2000) include these routines. If you have Acad 2000 but don't have the express tools, take a look at the thread "Using Bonus Menus from AutoCAD R14 in version 2000i."

here at the office we dont have either one and its like pulling teeth to get anyone to give us new and usefull tools at my new job if everyone helps everybody the world will be a better place

No problem - you can get the layer freeze version from . Look for FRZLAYER.lsp in the layer section. You can easily modify this simple routine to handle turning layers off and locking and unlocking as well. I would also suggest creating a command button or keyboard shortcut to turn all layers back on (I use this all the time).
