Hello All,
I am trying to model SMA’s in frame structures using ABAQUS and I have some problems to define properties of this materials using ABQUS own codes!
My models are as follow:
1) 1-Story eccentric frame (3-Dimentional) with horizontal link beam and cyclic loading modeled by using Shell element.
2) 1-Story Eccentric Braced frame (3-Dimentional) with vertical link beam and cyclic loading modeled by using Solid element.
3) 3-Story Concentrically Braced frame (2-Dimensional) with time history loading using Beam element.
In order to define SMA’s for frames number 1 and 2, I have used following naming:
A- ABQ_SUPER_ELASTIC_N2D_1
B- ABQ_SUPER_ELASTIC_N3D_1
In either of models, 15 parameters have been defined in Properties module (USER MATERIAL) as follow:
1- Austenite elasticity EA/MPa
2- Austenite Poisson’s ratio
3- Martensite elasticity EM/MPa
4- Martensite Poisson’s ratio
5- Transformation strain eL
6- Loading (ds/dT)L
7- Start of transformation loading
8- End of transformation loading
9- Reference temperature
10- Unloading (ds/dT)U
11- Start of transformation unloading
12- End of transformation unloading
13- Start of transformation stress in compression
14- Volumetric transformation strain
15- 0
Additionally, I have used the following settings in Mesh Module:
Hourglass control….stiffness
Hourglass stiffness…..specify=1
Finally, I got the following results
By comparing the results between SMA and Steel, I found that dissipated energy, vertical displacement, rotation of link beam and VM-Stress are smaller for SMA in comparison with Steel. However, vertical reaction and shear force in link beam are larger for SMA.
I am not confident about the way I defined properties and I need your help to make sure that my model work properly and the results are correct.
Also, I don’t know how can I model the third model using the same procedure for model 1 and 2 considering that the third model is 2-dimentional and has been defined by using Beam element?
