abrasive disc for hardened steel 2

Hi.

I need some tips for an abrasive disc that is good for cutting steel that has been heat treated(60-65 HRC).
In the workshop we use the same disc as we use for softer steel (25-30 HRC), but when we have a hardened one, the disc breaks after the cutting is made.

Any useful tip would be great. I want to test and then maybe buy some discs.

I'm not sure if you mean cut-off wheels for metallographic sample preparation, or more general abrasive discs. Here is a link for one of each type:

You really want a water cooled saw if you are cutting the harder material. You also need to make sure the material being cut is properly constrained. If it moves at all during the cut the disc will break.

The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which depends on a feature that isn't included in this version of Windows.

In general the harder the material that you are cutting the softer the binder in disc should be. You need for it to break down and expose fresh abrasive faster.
You can also change the type of abrasive, size of the particles, and other such features.
For really hard materials water cooling is nearly a must.

Do you deal directly with either Norton or 3M? Either can help you with this.
