I am seeking to be able to fit an ABS pipe socket into a range of GRP fittings. I presume that such an adhesive is available and that the process would becarried out before the application of the gel coat.

The adhesive would need to withstand longtudinal stresses due to pressure in a pipe system.

I have been involved with several projects to mould surf board fins and fin boxes. Getting the fin box to remain firmly attached in the board was an issue.

From memory, ABS was tried but discarded as a material in favour of polycarbonate. The reason was the better adhesion to the polyester resins.

I will ask around with the others involved.

ABS does not bond well to GRP: also could well result in stress corrosion cracking due to attack by styrene in the resin.

PVC-U, correctly degreased and suitable etchant works well.

Bond level will be limited, consider carefully loading. T100 etchant gives about 7-10 MPa in shear.
