I am building a pedestrian footbridge between two parking areas.
Can anyone provide me with information on the design of concrete foundations/abutments??

jimbobalooba,

What type of foundation does the soils report recommend? Once that is nailed down, try looking at standard drawings for pedestrian bridges. Although I have never been involved with the structural design for a bridge of this type, I would imagine that agencies such as your state DOT, the National Parks Service or your State parks/natural resources department would have some - maybe even online.

Let Google (or your favorite search engine) do the walking.

As jdonville mentioned, the owner should have some standard details you can follow. They may have their own details or they may default to the state DOT standard details. The AASHTO bridge design specifications have all the loading and design requirements you will need.

Are the parking areas at grade? Will you have to design access ramps up from grade to the level of the footbridge?

Or does the footbridge cross a ravine or depressed area with access to the bridge from grade?

Depending on the span and soil conditions, we have used drilled shafts and conventional spread footings for the abutments with typcial backwalls and bearing seats for the structure.

I think we need additional information.
